At the beginning, I had no understanding of my anxiety disorder and its effects. I didn’t know there were tens of thousands who suffered the same fate as me, who can understand or believe that an attack can come out of thin air. They would strike while I was driving, eating, working or just walking through a shopping centre.
What causes this, enough is enough, was always in my thoughts. My mind always asking, what is happening to me?. Your concern grows about, will there be another attack in a public space, can I avoid going out. However, you can’t even hide at home as an attack will come as you rest, while you sleep. They can, and often did happen while I was sleeping. You just can not convey the feeling in words.
But from the worlds point of view, anxiety is one of those ’sweep it under the carpet’, “embarrassment-type issues, or I think I might-be-going-crazy” feelings. All you find is this silent invisible barrier of denial, it’s a bit embarrassing or lets just sweep it under the carpet and hope it goes away attitude.
